Due to the number of stolen vehicle reports the Surprise Police Department receives, it is necessary that:

Under ARS 13-2907.01, it is unlawful for a person to knowingly make to a law enforcement agency of either this state or a political subdivision of this state a false, fraudulent or unfounded report or statement or to knowingly misrepresent a fact for the purpose of interfering with the orderly operation of a law enforcement agency or misleading a peace officer. False Reporting to a law enforcement agency is a class 1 misdemeanor punishable up to six months in jail, $2,500 fine and three years probation. 

Under ARS 13-2204, it is unlawful for a person to knowingly destroy, remove, conceal, encumber, convert, sell, transfer, control or otherwise deal with property subject to a security interest with the intent to hinder or prevent the enforcement of that interest. Defrauding Secured Creditors is a class 6 felony punishable up to 1.5 years in jail and up to a $150,000 fine. 
Under ARS 13-1814, a person who alleges that a theft of means of transportation has occurred shall attest to that fact by signing an affidavit (this document) when the report is taken in person or by signing and notarizing an affidavit that is provided (this document) if the report is taken other than in person. If this affidavit is not signed at the time the report is taken, it must be mailed or delivered to the Surprise Police Department within seven (7) days after reporting the theft. If we have not received the signed and notarized affidavit within thirty (30) days, the vehicle information will be removed from the NCIC and ACJIS database.
